Spring Baby

Last winter I posted a picture of my favorite squirrel - I only notice her because she lost her tail sometime ago - click here to see her picture.

Yesterday I noticed two little baby squirrels sitting outside of her nest - peeking out over the edge. One of them crawled out and sat on a nearby branch.

So tiny - not much larger than the leaf.

Last Day of Winter

Last night, into this morning, we had another snow fall - it seems fitting to celebrate the official last day of winter with a fresh layer of the white stuff.

Spring begins tomorrow!

Have a great day!

Snowy Squirrel

Over the weekend I saw a red robin sitting on our bird bath - I couldn't quite believe it - what a welcomed sign of spring.  I'm hoping to see him again so that I can snap a few photos.

But, for now, it's another cold and wintery day.

I'm joining Texture Tuesday with a photo of this squirrel.  He is so cute with a bit of snow on his nose!

My Favorite

Today I am joining Texture Tuesday with a photo of my favorite squirrel.

I spotted this cutie last spring, when we often have baby squirrels emerging from nests.  He was a tiny little squirrel and I noticed that his tail had a kink in it; an unusual bend to it.

I imagined that he experienced a close call - life or death match with a hawk or dog, or found himself in some other tight spot.  At some point his broken tail fell off and he was left with a tiny rabbit-like tail.

For some reason I get a kick out of spotting him around the neighborhood or see him in my back yard munching the corn that we leave out for them.

It's like a friend who has come for a visit :)

Squirrels and Headaches

Squirrels and Headaches and Joining Texture Tuesday Too!

While snapping photos of birds yesterday, I watched a pair of squirrels romp around the yard - "playing" in the snow and racing up and down the trees.  They finally settled on to branches next to the feeder.

I love how they stop and freeze - trying to look like park of the tree - when they hear a suspisious sound.

Like this one peeking out from behind the branch.

During this little photo session I started to develop a headache - I knew that I needed to take some aspirin to stop it from spreading - but I didn't want to stop snapping pictures.

I lifted my camera to take pictures of the second squirrel who was sitting on a higher branch . . .

when he did a peculiar thing - he straightened up and then set his forehead down on the tree branch . . .

and sat like this for several minutes.

I wonder, do squirrels get headaches too?

I hope that you are having a great day!

Winter Squirrel

My sister tells me that the squirrels that visit my yard are chubby - I think that it is just fluffy winter fur (or big bones, ha!).

I'm joining Texture Tuesday with a photo of one of those "chubby" squirrels.  I layered this image with one layer of Kim Klassen's BB2 texture.  (There is also one layer of a texture called wordless.)

I hope that you are having a great day!

The Watchers

I'm joining Texture Tuesday with a photo of this cute little squirrel.

He sat quietly, watching me, as I snapped his photo. He didn't run away - he just sat there posing for me until I was done, and then he slowing went back to work.

Then I turned around and spotted this mourning dove - high in the tree - watching the entire squirrel photo-shoot!

The squirrel photo is textured with two layers of Kim's UncleClarence texture.

Have a great day!
