Quiet

Today's Texture Tuesday's theme is "Quiet".

I love the quiet beauty
of faded flowers,
of soft hazy images,
and of gentle morning light.

I used Kim Klassen's "0212-2" and "3112" textures on this image.
I hope that you have a beautiful day!

Cooking

I've been making homemade granola lately.  I don't care for the pre-made granola that I find in the stores - they seem to contain a lot of fat and sugar.

I found a great recipe for Granola in the Wheat Belly book - a recipe with lots of protein and low in sugars.

It's great as a snack on it's own, or sprinkled on top of yogurt.

The recipe calls for three different types of nuts, coconut, and ground flaxseed.

It also calls for walnut oil - something that I've never used before, but I really like the deep nutty taste.

Surprisingly, the sweetness comes from sugar-free vanilla syrup (the kind that is used in coffee drinks).

I really don't like the "aftertaste" of sugar-free foods - but after baking, that aftertaste isn't there anymore - such a good thing.

I love recipes that I can change to suit my taste or to use what I happen to have on hand - instead of walnuts, I used pecans (yum!).

A tasty breakfast with a few strawberries and a little bit of milk - a great way to start my day!

Have an awesome day!

Last Day of Winter

Last night, into this morning, we had another snow fall - it seems fitting to celebrate the official last day of winter with a fresh layer of the white stuff.

Spring begins tomorrow!

Color

This weeks theme for Texture Tuesday is Color.

I think that these beautiful red and yellow tulips are colorful enough to fit the bill!

The image above is textured with Kim Klassen's "Magic Scripted" and "Moody" textures.

Triptych - Yellow and Orange

The Beyond Beyond Challenge this week is to create a Triptych.

The silk scarf and the bouquet of tulips are nearly a perfect color match - a happy accident to have left this scarf sitting out on the table, on the same day I purchased these flowers :)

Friday Finds me Amazed

Over the past year we've tried a number of things to keep the squirrels out of the bird feeders -

squirrel baffels above and below  -  removing tree branches so they can't jump on to the feeders  -  buying longer poles so they can't leap up from the ground  -  etc, etc, etc,

Last month we finally invested in squirrel proof feeders - and they work fine, unless you happen to have really smart squirrels living in your neighborhood :)

Wait just one minute, I wonder what would happen if I hang on AND lift the cover of this thing?
BINGO! ”                               — Einstein Squirrel

Snowy Squirrel

Over the weekend I saw a red robin sitting on our bird bath - I couldn't quite believe it - what a welcomed sign of spring.  I'm hoping to see him again so that I can snap a few photos.

But, for now, it's another cold and wintery day.

I'm joining Texture Tuesday with a photo of this squirrel.  He is so cute with a bit of snow on his nose!
