Be Still

I'm joining Texture Tuesday with this quote -

“Learning how to be still, to really be still and let life happen - that stillness becomes a radiance”

— Morgan Freeman

I love the graceful lines and the grungy peeling paint of this cast iron bird statue.

It is textured with one layer each of Kim Klassen's Add Some Noise 1 & 2.

I hope that you are having a great day!

Simply Light

Today I am joining Texture Tuesday with an image of light shining on - and through - an old glass bottle.  I love how the light glints off the glass and casts watery shadows on the table.

I have a few antique jars and bottles that have been passed down through my family or that I have picked up at flea markets – like this Dr. Kilmer’s Swamp Root bottle – complete with a rusted red metal cap and residue stains along the bottom edges.

 - if you’re wondering - Swamp Root was said to cure kidney disease, bladder problems, liver ailments, and obesity!

I used Kim Klassen’s “Chaos” texture on the first image and “The Veil” on the B&W version.

Quiet Beauty-Winter White

Quiet Beauty

I try to steal a few minutes each day to notice the beauty in my everyday - the quiet beauty that is always around us.

The delicate stems of spent flowers poke up through a blanket of winter white snow.  This is all that remains of last summers growth - a memory of what was and a reminder of what is to come. The stark whiteness of the snow is blinding, wind is the only sound, and the cold winter sun alights sparkles in the snow. The beauty in our winter white world.

Have a fabulous day!

Tough Love

"Love" is the theme for Texture Tuesday today.

I spent some time working on a pretty image that was pink, and sweet, and full of light.  It just didn't work for me - I don't know why - maybe my mood.  I love pink and glitter - but, I guess, not everyday.  After wasting a lot of time working, and reworking, this saccharine sweet image, I decided to close it down and start over.

Taking a break from my sparkly pink image, I walked to the kitchen for another cup of coffee and noticed the morning light hitting this bowl - a collection of things that I set inside a neutral colored pottery dish - polished stones, a hand-hammed copper leaf, and a strong iron heart.

Its funny how I (and maybe many of us?) have knick-knacks sitting out on shelves and tables; or photos posted on bulletin boards that, over time, we stop seeing {well, until it needs dusting}. Little treasures that need rediscovery.

No glitter here - woodsy, rusty, and earthy neutrals - love.

I used Kim Klassen's "light paper 2" and "Mixed Media" textures on this image.

I hope that you have a fabulous week!

A Little Cardinal Love

I'm popping in today, and joining Texture Tuesday, with a picture of a recent backyard visitor.

I love seeing these brightly hued birds in the middle of winter.  I love their bright red coloring and the tuft of feathers on the top of the head - so cute!

I used Kim Klassen's "Moody", "Vintage Magic Mess", and "Lyrical" textures on this image - lots of grungy texture!

I hope that your week is off to a good start!
